Using Marula Oil for Hair and Skin in the Hospitality Industry

Using Marula Oil for Hair and Skin in the Hospitality Industry

Published by Accent Amenities on 14th Jun 2019

From jojoba to coconut to argan, there have been many trends when it comes to oils used in cosmetics, the latest being marula. Marula oil is being used in shampoos and conditioners from big players like Paul Mitchell and Alba, and has made its way into the hospitality industry in provided amenities. Guests will be pleasantly surprised to see marula in products on vacation; they can take the same care of their hair and skin away from home!

Marula Oil

Marula oil is extracted from the marula tree native to southern and western Africa and Madagascar. The tree is in the same family as the cashew, mango, and pistachio trees, Anacardiaceae which produce edible fruit. The oil comes from the marula nuts, or stones in the fruit, which are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. The oils from both the seeds and the shell are used in cosmetics and cooking oils. Though the oil has been used for centuries in Africa, it is a relatively new health trend in the U.S.

Due to the number of fatty acids like oleic acid and linoleic acid and high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants, marula oil helps the skin by smoothing and softening. Using marula oil for hair helps nourish the skin on the scalp and promotes cell growth which in turn stimulates hair growth. Using marula oil in soaps, facial cleansers, and in shampoo and conditioners will help reverse environmental damage and regenerate collagen production, which firms the skin. Because marula oil is so high in omega fatty acids, it is a non-comedogenic which makes it less oily than its counterparts. This leaves the skin and hair dry to the touch rather than greasy after using it, another added benefit. Using marula in products will leave skin soft and healthy, and hair smooth, strong, and frizz-free, which guests will love.
